Good info. I was just prepping a list for my blog on ways to build your opt in lists. I will write a post and link to your post.

Just to be clear, I don't think you're suggesting that your Facebook friends (and other social media contacts) have inherently opted-in to receiving an actual email, are you? I'm thinking your point is more than you can post your survey on these sites and give them a chance to opt-in.
